    • Bettie is the eighth of eleven children, five brothers and five sisters. She is a graduate of the public school system in East Feliciana Parish where her extra curricula activities included cheer leader, gymnastics, basketball, sewing, choir and Future Business Leaders of America. She obtained a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Clothing and Textiles from Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA, and Licensed Practical Nurse Degree from Folkes Vocational Technical Institute, Jackson, LA; a Bachelors of Science Degree as a registered nurse from Southeastern University in Hammond, LA and Masters of Arts Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA. She has twelve years of experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner with certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Before assuming her role as a FNP, she worked as the Director of Nursing in home health, a Clinical Nursing Instructor at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, at numerous hospitals on various units including the Medical Surgical unit, Telemetry, ICU, Pediatrics, Oncology, Burn unit, Rehabilitation unit and Orthopedic unit. She has worked in Kid-Med, as a school nurse and school Nurse Practitioner with a special focus on childhood obesity.

      Presently she is RKM’s Smoking Cessation Program coordinator and participated in the HRSA Smoking Cessation Webinar on August 15, 2011; RKM received Recognition for Excellence in Tobacco Cessation by the American Academy of Family Physicians August 23, 2011. She has accreditation with the American Nurses Credentialing Center for Nurse Practitioners. Bettie is dedicated to her patient’s well-being. She has special interest in and is pursuing further study in health and lifestyle choices, childhood and adult obesity, and cardiac health.
